Raquis
“Rachis” is the Greek word for the spinal column. But it also tells us about support and structure, the stem that constitutes the vital connection between the grape and the plant. And, at the same time, a pure image of the project's purpose: the name Raquis refers to nature, and to the values of austerity, honesty and naked beauty. They are the foundations of a contemporary luxury that emphasizes precise detail, the balance between the scarce and the generous.
The heart of Raquis is made up of three wine professionals with a long career that mixes concern and excellence in equal parts.
Raquis Las Bases 2022 – TS
Province: Mendoza
Region: Uco Valley / Luján de Cuyo
Subregion: Chacayes, Gualtallary, Las Compuertas, Altamira & San Pablo
Elevation: 1,050–1,500 masl
Varietals: Malbec (96%) + Cabernet Franc (3%) + Cabernet Sauvignon (1%)
Vineyard size: Selection of micro-parcels
Soil composition: A wide range of terroirs, the result of parcel diversity. From extremely stony and shallow soils with high limestone concentration in the Uco Valley, to medium-depth soils with clay-loam texture in Luján de Cuyo. This geological foundation underpins the uniqueness of each expression.
Vinification & Aging
A regional red with Malbec as its base (40% from vines over 40 years old). Each vineyard and its internal selections are vinified separately. Techniques vary, adapted not only to the vintage but also to the individual character of each site—from open fermentations with variable use of stems to reductive vinifications with extended maceration.
For aging, a distinct program is designed for each lot, combining French oak barrels of different sizes and uses, Italian ceramic vessels, and Austrian foudres. Total aging time for this vintage: 20 months.
