Puerta del Abra

Bodega Puerta del Abra is a personal project of Jorge Perez Companc. In 2013, he made the decision along with his family to follow his dream of making wines with his own style while exploring a different terroir that is far away from the usual places. Nowadays, the winery is run by a talented team who have taken an uncharted route and love being a part of an incredible project.

The soil has a Horizon A of crumbly structure, with 4.5% organic matter; Horizon B clay loam with presence of expandable clays and varnishes between the blocks of the structure. The C horizon is sandy loam and extends from 1.5 m depth downwards. We have the presence of calcareous, which is of phreatic, pedogenetic origin as a result of biological intervention (due to the action of microorganisms). It is distributed heterogeneously throughout the entire field where the vineyards of the Puerta del Abra Winery are planted, as well all around Balcarce, depending on the depth of the soils (where the calcareous is found more buried) and the proximity to the mountains (where the limestone emerges to a greater extent at the surface). On the other hand, according to soil analyzes carried out by the Bourgignon laboratory, one of the most interesting characteristics is about the internal surface of the clays. In the soils analyzed in Puerta del Abra, a low internal surface of clays (200 g/m2) was found
