WINEMAKERS

ROBERTO DE LA MOTA

Roberto de la Mota stands as a leading figure in Argentine winemaking. Trained in Montpellier, he brought a refined and precise vision to viticulture, playing a key role in the modernization of Malbec and the revival of heritage white varieties such as Sémillon and Chenin Blanc.

As president of the Luján de Cuyo DOC, he is spearheading a process of research and elevation of the denomination, introducing soil studies, district mapping, and new regulations that allow for the naming of specific areas—like Agrelo or Perdriel—under strict quality standards.

At Mendel Wines, alongside the Sielecki family, he works with century-old vineyards to craft wines of soul and balance. His estate Malbecs and Cabernets are known for their depth, while his Sémillon—made from vines over 60 years old—impresses with its freshness and aging potential. He is also championing the return of Chenin Blanc as a key part of Mendoza’s viticultural identity.

Named “Winemaking Legend” by Tim Atkin in 2024, his legacy is one of innovation, precision, and an unwavering commitment to the truest expression of the Argentine terroir.
